The National Eligibility Test
(UGC NET) by CBSE is an eligibility test for the post of assistant professors
and junior research fellowship , for the Indian colleges and universities . All
those candidates who are eligible for the post of Assistant professor do not
qualify for the award of junior research fellowship. They have to specify in
the form whether they are applying for JRF or the post of assistant professor
or both. The candidates must note that only 6 % of the candidates clearing the
NET are eligible for the post of Assistant professor.
Ø Eligibility:
·
General: 55% marks without rounding off, in masters degree or
equivalent examinations from universities or institutes recognized by the UGC .
·
OBC / SC / ST /PWD: 50% marks without rounding off, in masters
degree or equivalent examination from
universities or institutes recognized by the UGC .
·
Candidates who are awaiting the result of masters degree or will
be appearing for masters degree (final year ) are also eligible to apply , but
such candidates will be admitted provisionally and will be considered eligible
for the award of junior research fellowship .
Ø PhD DEGREE HOLDERS :
·
All the PhD degree holders whose masters have been completed by
19th September, 1991. Shall be eligible, shall be eligible for a relaxation of
5% in aggregate.
Ø AGE CRITERIA :
There is no upper age
limit to appear for the post of assistant professor, however the upper age
limit for appearing in junior research fellowship has been increased from 28
years to 30 years this year. Relaxations have been given to those candidates
who have a research experience in the subject of their post graduation candidates having an LLM degree are given relaxation of 3 years .
Ø EXEMPTIONS :
- · Candidates, who have been awarded or will be awarded a PhD degree in accordance with the UGC regulations 2009, will be exempted from meeting the minimum criteria for NET /SLET /SET.
- · Candidates who have cleared the UGC/CSIR/JRF examination before 1989 are exempted to appear in NET 2018.
- · All those candidates who have cleared SAT (states eligibility test) before June 1 2002 are exempted to appear in the NET 2018, such candidates can apply for the post of assistant professors based on their SAT scores in colleges and universities all over India.
- · Those candidates who have cleared the SAT (Sates Eligibility Test) after June 1 2002 are eligible to apply for the post of assistant professors in the respective states.

Paper 1 will contain 50 objective type questions, 2
marks each. These questions are drafted in order to check the teaching aptitude,
reasoning ability, divergent thinking and general awareness of the candidate.
Paper 2 will contain 100 objective type questions, 2
marks each. These questions will be based on the subject choice of the candidate.
